Warm Thoughts

Today is a cold sunny day. I just love the look of my backyard with our forest gone, our backyard and also inside the house are so bright and sunny. I gave Christina a spa treatment this morning, slathering her arms and legs with lotion, massaging her feet and hands while she ate smarties in a big comfy swivel chair. She chose silvery polish for her toes and a soft pink polish for her fingers. Then we used two packages of sticky rhinestones, as every finger and toe needed some bling. They sparkled and shined in the sunlight coming through my window.

She asked me "Do you miss Summer?" I thought to myself, I should say, "well there's lots to celebrate about winter, and today is a beautiful wintery day!" but I said, "Yes. I do."

We've had a fun winter! We've gone sledding at Grampy's house, and he's rebuilt the treehouse there for the kids to explore. Jonah built the greatest snowman the other day, and the snowman's scarf and mitts are now frozen into the ground. They've eaten lots of snow, and caught snowflakes on their tongues, and helped daddy clean snow out of the driveway - well, Jonah plays with the shovel, and Christina takes care of Daddy, bringing him fresh drinks of water (come to think of it, I wonder if I've got some cups out there!) We've warmed up LOTS by the fire. Watched the magical snowfalls out the windows, I've thrown the kids off the front step into fresh deep snow a few times. We've had lots of snow days, which are always nice, in fact there's a huge storm coming tomorrow, and I hope school will be cancelled Thursday and Friday, to make a nice, lazy, long weekend! But with all the joys of winter, I've been dreaming of summer.

Jonah's been begging to go skating, and so maybe we'll try to do that soon. And it will soon be time to tap our maple trees...

But,

I dream of the day that the leaves pop open on the trees, and you know the best of spring is yet to come!

I dream of the day the blossoms fall off the cherry trees,

and the day the helicopters fall off the maples,

I dream of warm breezes,

and grampy's garden freshly tilled,

and getting my hands dirty planting seeds,

and eating snow peas,

I dream most of The Brook,

our lovely, lovely, enchanted Brook!

then, my dreaming ends, and I think to myself,... as cold and as long as our winter is - burning wood from September to May, I vow to celebrate every bit of summer weather! And for a moment I don't feel so chilly.
